Computer Repair Business Guide

It’s fairly easy to tell if you should be running a home computer repair business.  Answer these simple questions to find out.  Are you the person everyone calls when something goes wrong with their computer?  Have you ever been over at a friend’s house fixing their computer?  Are you the hero in your house when a computer won’t boot up?  Do you know how to exterminate a virus?

If you answered yes to any of those questions then you should think about earning money right out of your own home.  Especially if those are the things you’re already doing for free but even if you aren’t, it’s never too late to start.  Running a business out of your own home is easy.

Additionally, if you want to be able to safeguard someone’s hard drive, you should look into programs like GetDataBack or other data recovery programs.  There are also some excellent books on IT disasters by the people that publish the Dummies series called IT for dummies.  Finally and most importantly, you should invest in a backup copy of the most popular operating systems.  That way if a problem arises and the customer does not have an operating system disk, you will be able to do a system recovery provided by Microsoft.

Once you have the basic tools, it’ll be time to advertise.  You can begin by asking around to friends and family.  Ask your local church group is they need help maintaining their computer systems.  You can even put up some fliers around town.  Any customer you get is not only being given a valuable service by you but in return, you are getting experience.

The bottom line is that when you are replacing sticks of memory or running anti-spyware programs to rid a computer of unwanted spyware, you don’t need a giant shop.  All you need are the basic tools, some general know-how, and a little bit of perseverance.  You probably already know several people that would be willing to hand over a couple of bucks to solve their basic computer problems.
